Nicolas Schmit, European Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, spoke about this topic at the Healthy Workplaces Summit 2022.
This event discussed the future of health and safety at work, especially at a time of change marked by digitalization. During the conference, Nicolas Schmit stressed that the first right established for all employees should be the guarantee of a safe workplace. He stressed the importance of learning from the Covid-19 situation and preventing similar situations in the future, as well as the importance of providing new tools and instruments to improve employees’ physical and mental well-being. Another of the topics covered at this event was the inspection of the prevention of musculoskeletal diseases in companies and the psychosocial risks of these diseases. Yolanda Díaz Pérez, Second Vice-President of Labor and Social Economy of the Spanish Government, highlighted the importance of safe and healthy workplaces that support good mental health, stating that “mental health at work is a major challenge for the 21st century”.
Society needs to learn and implement safer and healthier practices to protect its employees and companies, and this is the only way to guarantee a sustainable and prosperous future for everyone. Therefore, events like these are essential for raising awareness of occupational health and safety issues, especially in an ever-changing world.
